City of Coventry Health Centre

Located in the heart of the City Centre, the new £23m City of Coventry Health Centre (CoCHC) opened to the public in December 2011. The 10,000m² landmark building provides the people of Coventry with a wide range of health services over 5 floors of state of the art primary care space.

Throughout the development of the project service users, staff and members of the public have been closely involved in the development of the building design and the way in which services operate within it. Key decisions have involved representatives from all these groups.

Working closely with NHS Coventry and Coventry City Council, Coventry Care Partnership (CCP) were able to obtain the approvals and planning permissions necessary to move forward with this landmark development.

The CoCHC has attained a rating of ‘Excellent’ through the Building Research Establishment’s Environmental Assessment Method. The centre is one of the very first to achieve this much sought after accolade. A key part of the project has been to integrate the architectural design solution with the most efficient and environmentally sustainable energy solution for the building.

CCP provide facilities management and life cycle replacement services for the CoCHC, the building and grounds are maintained to a high standard over a 25 year period. These services are provided through a contract which is actively managed and reported on by our Business Performance Team to ensure a good level of service. Any problems are reported to a 24 hour helpdesk and dealt with in accordance with a strict set of timescale parameters.

A good on-going relationship exists between CCP and the building users, regular Tenants Meetings are held as an opportunity to raise concerns and provide feedback.

Feedback is also sought through a process of user interviews aimed at understanding and improving the user experience. The CoCHC was created in order to re-house services previously provided from an assortment of outdated Victorian hospital buildings that were no longer fit for purpose and costly to maintain. When the acute hospital services were relocated to the edge of the city in 2006, the people of Coventry made it clear that a more central health presence was needed.

Transforming Community Services

Although one of the largest cities in the UK, Coventry is densely populated and covers a relatively small geographical area. The excellent public transport links centre a short distance from the CoCHC site, making the facility easily accessible from most areas of the City, and beyond.

A Centre for the Whole Community

Throughout the development of the project service users, staff and members of the public have been closely involved in the development of the building design and the way in which services operate within it. Key decisions have involved representatives from all these groups.

The CoCHC was developed through the Local Improvement Finance Trust (LIFT) framework by CCP a public private partnership company.

Working closely with NHS Coventry and Coventry City Council, CCP were able to obtain the approvals and planning permissions necessary to move forward with this landmark development.
