Townsend Lane Medical Centre, Liverpool

Building work finished on this new £7.5m Liverpool Health Centre in December 2011.

Health chiefs said the centre in Anfield will offer longer opening hours, dental services and minor surgery as well as regular GP appointments.

Townsend Lane Medical Centre and Anfield Group Practice have moved into the building. The extended centre also offers blood testing, a pharmacy and counselling services. The Project was developed by Liverpool and Sefton Health Partnership (LSHP).

Transforming Community Services

Townsend Lane houses 2 GP practices, phlebotomy, podiatry, dental, spirometry, sexual health services, vaccination and immunisation, a range of outpatient treatment services including minor surgery, a range of outpatient consulting services and a pharmacy. With all these services being offered under one roof this has allowed community services to be provided closer to home with a holistic approach.

Gideon Ben-Tovim, Chair of Liverpool Primary Care Trust said: “When we outlined our plans for the ‘New Health Service for Liverpool,’ we had a vision of delivering a wider range of services closer to people’s homes, to make it more convenient and quicker for patients to access them.

“Over the past few years we’ve made enormous progress and I feel extremely proud that yet another building has been delivered for patients in Liverpool. It reflects the continued success of the programme and I feel extremely proud that we are continuing to deliver the highest quality of buildings that will not only house a wider range of services but are going to make a huge difference to patients in the Anfield area.”

The scheme is part of Liverpool Primary Care Trust’s wider vision for a ‘New Health Service for Liverpool’, which was announced in 2007. Since then, millions of pounds have been invested in purpose-built or improved facilities across the city to make services available closer to people’s homes. Work began on site at Townsend Lane in December 2009.

A Centre for the Whole Community

With longer opening hours and a wide range of services being offered this building has become a hub of the community where patients can receive a one-stop-shop approach to their healthcare.

Partnership Working

The development is being delivered by LSHP, the NHS LIFTCo for Liverpool and Sefton.

Graham Pink, Chief Executive of LSHP Ltd said, “We are delighted to be able to open this new Neighbourhood Health Centre today in Anfield. As a company, we are absolutely committed to providing modern health centres which are conveniently located near to where people live and positively contribute to the health and wellbeing of whole communities. Our hope is that this centre will be a huge asset for everyone living in Anfield and its surrounding neighbourhoods for many years to come.”
