£2000 donation to Own Books
Updated: Nov 15, 2019
We have donated £2000 to the following project in Coventry, an organisation that is very worthwhile. Nicky will be going to visit them in the next couple of weeks to see the good work for herself - Own Books provides an ongoing supply of free books to children and delivers book based art workshops to families, to encourage the enjoyment of books and early literacy skills, to enable an ongoing relationship with books.
It supports a lifetime love of books and reading. Own Books improves children's literacy and reading skills with no cost to parents. With easy access to books, and without the obligation to return them, parents are supported to read many books with their children and encourage a culture of books in the home. 'Own Books Inspires' organises workshops where they utilise all the books that are too dilapidated to circulate to the children.
Professional facilitators conduct these books art workshops, whilst supervising young trainee mentored assistants who wish to learn the art of facilitation; they provide art making sessions to children and their families and caregivers in parent centres and nurseries, primary schools, youth clubs and Community centres.
The Grant will help to provide a number of these workshops. We are also in discussion with the group to make a Christmas donation of £200 worth of new reading material. http://www.ownbooks.co.uk/?LMCL=cPmFsI
