Funded by Community Health Partnerships (CHP), the Talking Therapies service, delivered by Hampshire and Isle of Wight (HIOW) Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, will relocate in October to newly refurbished accommodation at Brune Medical Centre in Gosport..

The remodel has created five therapy rooms and open-plan office space, enabling around 2,100 extra appointments each year, and improving access to local mental health support for residents in their local neighbourhood. The refurbished layout creates a more flexible clinical environment, better facilities for NHS staff, and supports multidisciplinary working with the Willow Group Practice.

Repurposing vacant estate to meet local mental health needs

The remodel has created five therapy rooms and open-plan office space, enabling around 2,100 extra appointments each year, and improving access to local mental health support for residents in their local neighbourhood. The refurbished layout creates a more flexible clinical environment, better facilities for NHS staff, and supports multidisciplinary working with the Willow Group Practice. The project completed within budget following construction that began in March 2026.

The remodel forms part of CHP’s ongoing work to maximise the NHS LIFT estate and enhance local, community-focused patient services in line with the NHS 10-year plan and the delivery of neighourhood-based care.

Delivering the remodel through partnership

The scheme was delivered through collaboration between CHP, NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight Integrated Care Board (ICB), and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, Solent Estates Partnerships Limited (LIFTCo), and gbpartnerships, with contractors, architects and project management teams.

Addressing local population health needs

The new service will be accessible for residents in surrounding communities and will be co located with the Willow Group GP practice, enabling closer collaboration between primary care and mental health teams.

The Gosport area has high levels of deprivation and below average health outcomes, with higher prevalence of obesity, diabetes, depression, and multiple long-term conditions. The population is also ageing, with nearly 25% of residents aged over 65. Repurposing vacant space into modern, flexible therapy accommodation directly addresses these pressures and helps improve access to mental health support.

"We're really pleased this project has reached completion. Access to timely mental health support is increasingly important for communities across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. This collaborative project has enabled the creation of dedicated therapy facilities within a familiar local healthcare setting, helping to enhance the patient experience and support the delivery of more appointments each year. Solent is delighted to have helped deliver a scheme that will provide lasting benefits for both patients and NHS colleagues."

Charlotte Douglass, Director for Solent Estates Partnership Limited (LIFTCo)

"CHP’s £875k investment in Brune Medical Centre shows how we’re working with NHS and partners to make better use of the LIFT estate while improving access to care. By creating modern space for Talking Therapies, we are increasing capacity and supporting more integrated, community-based services for residents in Gosport."

Simon Waters, Regional Director for South and East, Community Health Partnerships

"The Hampshire and Isle of Wight NHS Talking Therapies service is delighted to celebrate the completion of the newly refurbished therapy space at Brune Medical Centre, creating dedicated rooms where high quality psychological therapies can be delivered. Providing care closer to home is a key priority for the service, and these improvements will ensure the people of Gosport community can continue to access evidence based psychological therapies in a safe, welcoming and local setting. The Hampshire and Isle of Wight NHS Talking Therapies service would like to thank everyone involved in making the refurbishment possible. This investment demonstrates a shared commitment to improving local facilities and supporting the delivery of compassionate care for the communities we serve."

Dr Laura Dannahy, Divisional Director of Psychological Professions, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust
