Supporting stronger, healthier communities is something we have a genuine passion for. Our Consult team jumped at the chance to spend a morning volunteering at a community allotment in Manchester in May.

Warmly greeted by Marva, Venford and Paul of Ryder Brow Community Allotment Society (RBCAS) in Gorton, our team of 27 got to work tidying up various areas of the allotment, including weeding, planting, clearing and repairing.

The allotment is open to the local community and grows a wonderful variety of flowers and fresh vegetables. RBCAS also hosts many free events such as organic gardening sessions and art workshops, to support wellbeing and bring people together in the open air.

The Manchester weather, true to form, made a late cameo with a sudden hailstorm that sent the team running for the polytunnel just before midday. Once it passed, we headed back out to tidy up equipment and leave the site in good shape before calling it a morning.

It was an enjoyable and rewarding experience, and we’re proud to have played our part in supporting such a special community initiative. We were also pleased to leave our gardening gloves behind for future volunteers to use. A big thank you to Marva and the RBCAS team for this wonderful opportunity - a few of our locally-based staff have already expressed interest in coming back very soon!
