Unlocking the transformation of Hythe and Dibden War Memorial Hospital, West Hampshire

For over 10 years, successive local strategic commissioning strategies and estates strategies have highlighted the need to redevelop the Hythe and Dibden War Memorial Hospital site. The project is recognised nationally as one of nine NHS Property Services legacy projects and is a priority project for the local South West Hampshire Delivery System.

Using their comprehensive skills and experience, the gbpartnerships Consultancy Team were able to help unlock the project, developing a comprehensive Full Business Case within tight timescales. The gbpartnerships project team will continue to provide support to NHS Property Services with the design and construction work required to deliver the project.

The West Hampshire CCG Board commended gbpartnerships on the quality of the Business Case and were delighted that this legacy scheme (12 years in the planning) was finally reaching the construction stage. NHS Property Services’ Head of Evaluation and Analytics, Bina Featherstone, commented:

“Kerry was very knowledgeable about the Business Case and really helped drive to complete it on time. My team at NHSPS and Kerry worked very well together.”

Once completed, the project will deliver first class, patient focussed, integrated and effective primary and community healthcare services to the people of Totton and Waterside through the provision of a locality hub whilst maximising the efficiency of the NHS Estate.

The new hospital will have a significantly smaller footprint than the two current buildings combined, but by using accommodation more efficiently, based on flexible clinical rooms and moving to a three session a day and open seven days a week schedule, there will be capacity to continue to deliver the current health services from the site. In addition, there will be opportunities to bring an expanded range of health and wellbeing services to the site in the future.

Key benefits delivered by the project include:

• delivery of a high quality and safe, clinical and patient environment;

• an increased range of services and availability of treatments for the local community;

• improved integration of primary, community and acute care; and,

• rationalised use of land and buildings across the NHS Estate.
